Key question: once Mom gets to NY, where is she going to stay? I don't know where she could stay except a hotel. She can stay near us but someone needs to stay with her (I think). We are happy to take her back to the places (we'd like to see them also), etc. but we need a plan.
As far as the other points Hillary raised, while they are important, I don't think the apartment is a priority. Until there is a plan for where and when she is moving, selling the apartment is not critical. She doesn't need the money immediately and she doesn't want to get into a situation where she is 'rushed' out to complete the sale. Seems unlikely in the current real estate market but you never know.
Before anything is done with the car, it needs to be decided what is going to happen to it. She certainly doesn't need it. If it is being sold, why bring it up? If it is being given to someone who needs a car, that is a different story. Again, a decision for Mom.
Mom has agreed that Alex could have the car, which he will need now that he is a college man. I'm sure if we asked Mom, she would be able to take it to her service station to have them check it out before it is driven north.
ReplyDeleteThe reason to start working on the apartment now while Mom is there so that she can let people in to do things, etc.
ReplyDeleteOf course she has the key lockbox on the front door so we could have vendors use the key from there. there would be no one there to check up on them.
The Realtor info from Mom is

Mom has the logistics all figured out. She told me she can stay with Eric!!! And she's quite proud that she figured this out! Then she doesn't need someone to stay with her. The ball's in your court Eric and Amy. You tell her if she can't stay with you :)
ReplyDeleteOk, I love my MOM. But really?
ReplyDeleteI think we would need to look at the length of that stay. But that too can be decided when the time gets a little closer.
as far as the car, If anyone is worried about him driving it back. Amy and I could always go get it.

Coincidentally, Debbie & I stopped by there yesterday and got a little tour. It is 10 years old, looks to be smaller than the other places, our estimate that it is about 15-20% Jewish. Has typical activities (scrabble club, a card room, discussion groups, movies, bus rides to Dollar Store and Trader Joe).
DeleteHas 'companion' suites (2 bedrooms, shared bathroom), studios and 1 bedroom suites. Seems to be a little less expensive than the amounts I hear about from the other places. If I remember correctly, about $4500/month plus all the other fees for a 1 bedroom. The bedrooms come furnished but you can use you own furniture.
Ok,
ReplyDeletethis one actually is the nearest to us and Lee.
I was not involved in the first go round or any of the costs.
should we add a stop in to it?
