Welcome to Connie's Move

Here are the tasks Hillary outlined:

1. Speak to FL realtor(s) about what it will take to sell her unit.  I have asked Connie to get us the names of a couple of realtors that her friends have used. I will follow up and get that info from her.
2. Connie wants to re-visit the places before making a final decision. This entails flying her up for a visit, arranging the visits, going to each site with her, and flying her back home.  This needs to be arranged. If it makes the most sense for me to fly down and get her again, I will do that. If someone else thinks they can take it on, go for it. I won't be hurt.
3. Research places that will come to the house and provide us with quotes for holding an estate sale or buying the furnishings, etc.
4. Research having her car transported up to NYC and whether it makes sense to do so.  We should use this to ship many of her things up north if need be.
I do not think any of this should happen without including Connie. I just want to get it moving along and right now this is the most expedient way.  If you think we should get on the phone together, I have a conference bridge we can use for that.

Hopefully we can have her relocated by Rosh Hoshonah.

  1. About Eric's suggestion......
I don't think this place will be a good fit for Mom. Based on their website they talk mainly about memory care and respite stay. I think the population is not what mom is looking for. I'm not sure about the Jewish percent in Rockville Center but that's an aside. I like either Atria or Bristol because they are well known for quality care and are upscale all over Long Island. As far as these places go, they seem to be the best available. Their location is convenient for you guys too. I also really like the North Shore Tower alternative. It's a more independent life without an Institution in charge of you. My experience at HuntingtonTerrace/Brandywine has been less than stellar. I haven't been To NorthTowers myself, but I've only heard great things about it. There is an extremely large Jewish population of older women. There are lots of card games and mah-jong games going on that hopefully mom could join. There is an attached indoor mall with all kinds of stores, a movie theater and i think a pool, so mom doesn't have to go out in inclement weather. So here you have my opinions.

    1. I spoke to Mom about the North Shore Tower idea. I don't think that is what she has in mind. Basically, she is worried about being alone and does not want to deal with the day to day life adminstration like deciding what to eat, deciding what to buy for meals, etc..

Of course, Mom being Mom, she said maybe she should take a look. She remembered having a discussion about it with Scott & Shelley last year but I really don't think it is what she thinks she wants.

In her mind, it would only solve one of the 2 issues - proximity to her family - but not the other - loneliness and the effort to organize her day to day life.
